Why I Love It:

The Hoxton is one of my favorite hotel brands. They’re revamping hospitality in a young, fresh way. Their DTLA location is one of those hotels that you cannot dislike, no matter what. The hip LA energy throughout the hotel is contagious. The hotel has easily earned their spot on the top of my list. I really enjoyed the hotel, design and vibes—I understand why they were the #1 hotel in LA on TripAdvisor.

The Hoxton, DTLA is located in the central part of Downtown, Los Angeles. The location is perfect for anyone that plans to spend majority of their time in the downtown area. Fashion district, major theaters and museums are within walking distance. However, it’s still just a 10-20min drive to other parts of LA if you wish to venture out. Only downside is the location and downtown area in general can be a little sketch at night with homeless people wondering.

The Hoxton brand is very hip, fun and cool and their DTLA location fits perfectly into their brand. I couldn’t help but to compare this hotel vibe with the Soho House in Chicago during my stay, which was very interesting, as I learned afterwards The Hoxton + Soho House collaborated on the interiors. The design is hip mixed with vintage, plants and Art Deco vibes. Every room, hallway, and floor transitioned perfectly into the next. The average sized hotel rooms featured two comfy vintage velvet chairs, various books (loved that they had Grace Jones memoir), complimentary beverages in the mini fridge and separated toilet + shower. While i’m usually not a fan of the bathroom sink being inside of the bedroom area, the room was dived perfectly to not not easily notice this feature. The beds are cozy and ultra-soft. The view overlooked the downtown area with a glimpse of the video screens on the Microsoft theater and Staple Center. My favorite parts of the hotel was definitely the Art Deco styled hallways, hotel room and rooftop pool area.

Overall, the staff and service aspect was welcoming. The front desk staff was very accommodating and welcome—even after my 10th request for another complimentary bottle of water. The Hoxton brand has a flexible check-in/check-out feature that allows you to choose whatever time you wish to arrive and departure (basically, no charge for a late check out)—this is always my favorite. My least favorite service aspect was the temporary ordering feature for the rooftop restaurant. While the restaurant still operated as normal with a host and waiter, they required you to order and pay online for all food and beverages—this is very pointless.

The hotel focus is more food/beverage and events. They offer two on-site restaurants, coffee shop, rooftop pool and area to host small meetings and events. They do not have a fitness center on site. As a guest you will receive complimentary beverages daily and housekeeping services upon request (even during COVID). The Hoxton brand offers bag/to-go style breakfast for those looking to wake and go. However, the bag breakfast is about $8 for 1 apple, small orange juice and snack bar—not worth it. If I had to provide feedback on items to add to the hotel, I would definitely recommend robes + slippers and a fitness center.
