Why I Love It:
Once I found out about the opening of this property, I had to make a special trip to New Orleans! There is no other hotel in Nola like this—this hotel perfectly blends luxury and the southern culture all into the design details. The moment you pull up, the building architecture, entrance and black/white stairwell is like a scene out of a modern slavery movie or American Horror Story: Coven. The style is very modern but an ode to the southern environment with an art-deco twist. My favorite area in the hotel is the bar/lounge area called “Bar Marilou”—hotel guest are able to enter through a private bookcase/speakeasy type entrance. The bar is decked with red and cheetah print bar stools, reminding me of a glamorous 80s film. Each space in the hotel offers a different element and design, no space is the same—it’s very interesting. The hotel rooms are like no other! I never stepped into a room that felt so comfortable and rich—the oversize burnt orange rug, dark blue bed fabric and nude artwork added a very rich theme to the property. If you haven’t noticed, THIS IS MY TYPE OF HOTEL!
While the hotel is not on the Bourbon Street strip, it’s still located in the French Quarter area and only a 10-15 minute walk to/from the strip. I personally enjoyed being a little further from the strip/chaos and being able to go when I please.
Overall, the ACE hotel brand did a great job with this southern belle. The only downside is there’s not much inside the hotel if you’re not a drinker or foodie—while guest can use the facilities at ACE hotel next door (pool & fitness center), it would’ve added more value to have the two amenities directly inside the property. However, I did enjoy the location and bath amenities (Gown Alchemist). If my bank account allows me to, I would definitely stay here every time i’m in New Orleans (they are very expensive).
